Privacy Policy

How Skite collects, uses, stores, and protects your data.

1. Introduction

Welcome to Skite Edu Technology Limited ("Skite", "we", "our", "us"), a company incorporated in Nigeria with its registered office at Eketa Omo Street, Ibadan.

Skite operates https://skite.co and the Skite mobile application (together, the "Service").

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect information that results from your use of the Service. By using the Service you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

This Privacy Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service at https://skite.co/terms. Together they form your agreement with us.

2. Definitions

Service means https://skite.co and the Skite mobile application operated by Skite Edu Technology Limited.

Personal Data means data about a living individual who can be identified from those data (or from those and other information either in our possession or likely to come into our possession).

Usage Data is data collected automatically, either generated by the use of the Service or from the Service infrastructure itself (e.g. the duration of a page visit).

Cookies are small files stored on your device (computer or mobile device).

Data Controller means a natural or legal person who (either alone or jointly or in common with other persons) determines the purposes for which and the manner in which any personal data are, or are to be, processed. For the purpose of this Privacy Policy, we are a Data Controller of your data.

Data Processors (or Service Providers) means any natural or legal person who processes the data on behalf of the Data Controller. We may use the services of various Service Providers in order to process your data more effectively.

Data Subject is any living individual who is the subject of Personal Data.

The User is the individual using our Service. The User corresponds to the Data Subject, who is the subject of Personal Data.

3. Information Collection and Use

We collect different types of information to provide and improve the Service. You are obliged to provide certain information so that we can offer the Service to you.

4. Types of Data Collected

Personal Data. While using our Service we may require you to provide personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Email address
  • First name and last name
  • Phone number
  • Address, state, province, ZIP/postal code, city
  • Date of birth
  • Profile photo / avatar
  • Banking information (for creator payouts)
  • USDT wallet address (for creator payouts)
  • Cookies and Usage Data

We may use your Personal Data to contact you with newsletters, marketing or promotional materials and other information that may be of interest to you. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in our emails or by emailing hello@support.skite.co. Transactional emails (account, payment, booking, security notifications) are required to operate the Service.

Usage Data. We also collect information that your browser or device sends whenever you visit the Service or access it through a mobile device. This may include your computer or mobile device IP address, browser type and version, the pages of the Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers, mobile operating system, and other diagnostic data.

KYC Information. To process payouts and to comply with applicable financial regulations, we may require identity verification documents including government-issued ID, proof of address, and confirmation of banking or wallet ownership. We may share these documents with secure third-party verification services and, where required by law, with regulatory authorities and law enforcement.

Content you create. When you use chat, voice notes, video sessions, uploads, courses, group spaces and other Skite features, we collect and store the content you create or share so we can deliver the Service to you and the people you share it with.

Tracking Cookies Data. We use cookies and similar tracking technologies (beacons, tags, scripts) to track activity on the Service and to remember certain information. Cookies are files with a small amount of data which may include an anonymous unique identifier. You may instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent — however, if you do not accept cookies, some portions of the Service may not function correctly. Examples of cookies we use:

  • Session Cookies — to operate the Service.
  • Preference Cookies — to remember your preferences and settings.
  • Security Cookies — for security purposes.
  • Analytics Cookies — to understand how the Service is used so we can improve it.
  • Advertising Cookies — to deliver advertisements to you (including on third-party sites) that are relevant to creators and the Skite audience.

5. Use of Data

Skite Edu Technology Limited uses the data we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain the Service.
  • To notify you about changes to the Service.
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features when you choose to do so.
  • To provide customer support.
  • To gather analysis or valuable information so that we can improve the Service.
  • To monitor the usage of the Service.
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical, security, and fraud issues.
  • To fulfil any other purpose for which you provide the data.
  • To carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection.
  • To provide you with account notices including expiration and renewal notices and email instructions.
  • To provide you with news, special offers, and information about features, products, or events similar to those you have purchased or enquired about, unless you have opted out.
  • To target advertising to creators and prospective creators about Skite on third-party platforms (see Section 16 — Advertising).
  • In any other way we describe when you provide the information, or for any other purpose with your consent.

6. Retention of Data

We retain your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy and to comply with our legal obligations (for example, to retain financial records as required by law, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements and policies).

We retain Usage Data for internal analysis. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period, except where this data is used to strengthen security or improve functionality of the Service, or where we are legally obligated to retain it for a longer period.

7. Transfer of Data

Your information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where data-protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction.

Skite primarily uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) for hosting and storage. Your data may therefore be stored and processed in AWS regions including the United States and other regions where AWS operates. Some Service Providers (including Firebase, Mixpanel, and our payment processors) may process your data in additional jurisdictions, including the United States and the European Union.

Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer.

Skite will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. No transfer of your Personal Data will take place to an organisation or country unless there are adequate controls in place, including security of your data and other personal information.

8. Disclosure of Data

We may disclose Personal Data that we collect, or you provide:

Disclosure for law enforcement. Under certain circumstances we may be required to disclose your Personal Data if required to do so by law, or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).

Business transaction. If we or our subsidiaries are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.

We may also disclose your information:

  • To our subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • To Service Providers we engage to operate the Service (see Section 14).
  • To fulfil the purpose for which you provided it.
  • With your consent in any other cases.
  • If we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of Skite, our users, or others — including to prevent fraud.

9. Security of Data

The security of your data is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

10. Deletion of Data

You may request deletion of your personal information at any time. Send a written request to hello@support.skite.co with the subject line "Data deletion request". You will be required to provide enough information to verify your identity and to process the request.

We aim to process all data deletion requests within 21 working days. You will be notified once the deletion is complete, or if any part of your data cannot be deleted due to legal or regulatory obligations.

We may retain certain data where necessary to:

  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Resolve disputes
  • Enforce our agreements
  • Maintain security and prevent fraud

By requesting data deletion, you understand that some Service features may no longer be available if essential data is removed.

11. Your Data Protection Rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR)

As a Nigerian-incorporated company, we process Personal Data in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and applicable Nigerian privacy law. If you are a data subject under Nigerian law, you have the following rights:

  • The right to be informed about how your data is collected and used.
  • The right of access — to obtain a copy of the Personal Data we hold about you.
  • The right to rectification — to have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
  • The right to erasure — to request deletion of your data, subject to legal retention obligations.
  • The right to restrict processing.
  • The right to object to processing, including for direct marketing.
  • The right to data portability — to receive your Personal Data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • The right to withdraw consent, where consent is the legal basis for processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@support.skite.co. You may also lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

12. Your Data Protection Rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

If you are a resident of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain data-protection rights under GDPR. We aim to take reasonable steps to allow you to correct, amend, delete, or limit the use of your Personal Data.

You have the following rights:

  • The right to access, update, or delete the information we have on you.
  • The right of rectification — to have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected.
  • The right to object to our processing of your Personal Data.
  • The right of restriction — to request that we restrict the processing of your personal information.
  • The right to data portability — to receive a copy of your Personal Data in a structured, machine-readable, and commonly used format.
  • The right to withdraw consent where we rely on consent to process your personal information.

We may require you to verify your identity before responding to such requests. We may not be able to provide the Service without some necessary data.

You have the right to complain to a Data Protection Authority about our collection and use of your Personal Data. For more information, please contact your local data protection authority in the European Economic Area (EEA).

13. Your Data Protection Rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CalOPPA)

If you are a California resident, you are entitled to learn what data we collect about you, to request deletion of your data, and to know that we do not sell your data. To exercise these rights you can ask us:

  • What personal information we have about you — including the categories of information collected, the sources, the business purpose, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared. You may make this request up to twice in a rolling 12-month period; the information returned may be limited to the previous 12 months.
  • To delete the personal information we hold about you as of the date of your request, and to direct our Service Providers to do the same. Deletion may be accomplished by de-identification in some cases. Some Service features may become unavailable if essential data is removed.
  • To confirm that we do not sell your personal information.

Sale of personal data. Skite does not sell or rent your personal information to any third party. You remain the owner of your Personal Data and may request disclosure or deletion at any time.

"Do Not Track" signals. We honour Do Not Track signals. We do not track, plant tracking cookies, or serve targeted advertising when a Do Not Track browser mechanism is in place. You can enable or disable Do Not Track in the Preferences or Settings page of your web browser.

14. Service Providers

We engage third-party companies and individuals to facilitate the Service ("Service Providers"), to provide the Service on our behalf, to perform Service-related services, or to assist us in analysing how the Service is used. These third parties have access to your Personal Data only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Our current Service Providers include:

  • Paystack and Stripe — payment processing.
  • Firebase Authentication — sign-in.
  • Firebase Firestore — real-time chat and data sync.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications.
  • Google Sign-In — federated authentication.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS S3) — file storage.
  • AWS Amplify — application hosting.
  • Mixpanel — product analytics.

Each provider has its own privacy policy governing how it handles your data.

15. Analytics

We use Mixpanel to monitor and analyse how the Service is used so that we can improve it.

16. Advertising and Remarketing

We run advertising campaigns on third-party platforms to reach creators and prospective creators. These platforms may use cookies and similar technologies to deliver Skite ads to you on other websites and apps based on your visits to our Service or your interests.

We currently use:

  • Google Ads — for search and display advertising. Opt out at https://www.google.com/settings/ads. Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) — for social advertising. Opt out at https://www.facebook.com/help/568137493302217. Meta's data policy: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/explanation.
  • X (formerly Twitter) Ads — for social advertising. Opt out at https://help.x.com/en/safety-and-security/privacy-controls-for-tailored-ads. X's privacy policy: https://x.com/privacy.

You may also opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance at http://www.aboutads.info/choices/, the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada at http://youradchoices.ca/, or the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance at http://www.youronlinechoices.eu/. Mobile device users can opt out via their device settings.

17. Payments

We provide paid products and services within the Service. We use third-party payment processors — currently Paystack and Stripe — to handle transactions.

We do not store or collect your full payment card details. That information is provided directly to our payment processors, whose use of your personal information is governed by their own privacy policies. Our processors adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS, which help ensure the secure handling of payment information.

18. Links to Other Sites

Our Service may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

19. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from anyone under 18.

If you become aware that a child under 18 has provided us with Personal Data, please contact hello@support.skite.co. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from a child under 18 without verification of parental consent (where applicable), we will take steps to remove that information from our servers.

20. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective date" at the top.

Where changes are material we will give you reasonable notice through the Service or by email before the changes take effect. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes take effect when they are posted on this page.
